    Look beyond the DOE. There is probably a better job outlook for social
    service professionals in healthcare- substance abuse treatment programs,
    geriatric care, mental health programs,etc. Since you mention that you
    are a college student, why not look for an internship so that you can see
    if you would like working with those populations? I didn't intern but
    once I "shadowed" someone for a few days to see what their daily routine
    entailed- it helped me formulate some ideas about what I liked and didn't
    like. Also, go see your school's career counselor- even if you get only
    one idea, it's worth it.
    FYI, I didn't really know what I wanted to do until I was in my 40s.
