Not good advice, unfortunately. Mike should pursue other avenues.
The problem is administrators have the power to destroy your
career. Teachers can't simply "ignore" it. Mike will be ahead in
the long run if he refuses to go into the field of education.
It's not worth spending or going into debt tens of thousands of
dollars only to have a "career" which lasts no more than two or
three years
