Re: Types of pt jobs teachers have?

I am not a teacher. I am a depressed college student looking at different
career choices. I used to have a strong desire to teach but have heard many
different things, including how the dept is rife with problems of politics,
the rubber room, image of school rather than educating the kids. I'm not
going to lie, the benefits and summers off to continue my academic
interests are whats mainly attracting me. I used to naively think that I
could somehow maybe shape children's lives but I've come to accept that
your only there to reach a few out of the majority that don't care. I grew
up in a low income, dysfunctional family with a multitude of psychological
problems, abused drugs, attempted suicide, been in jail. I know I can
perform this job better than most people can for the most part because of
how I can understand what a teenager/child is going through intuitively.
However I do not want to be over stressed with bs and being under
appreciated. Most of the teachers I have met that taught me in community
college struck to impress me as people who were not the most intelligent
people in the world and that only taught because they didn't know what to
do with their lives. I feel that it would be waste for me to not lead in
the classroom but at the same time want to live comfortably with a decent
salary.
